Devotion

In this era of technology, everything can be accessed through a click of a button. This may lead to good things but also the wrongs. It comes down to what we choose. Things that deviate us away from God by staying online are on an ever increasing trend. It's evident as we see many lives destroyed from people wanting to fulfil their lusts. It's an ongoing issue and leads to a life bound by guilt and shame. They are trading the glorious things of God for cheap things of this world. They're living in a lower nature at the cost of their holiness. I am disgusted to even mention the name but I'll do it for the sake of reaching out to those bound by it. I am referring to the ‘pornographic industry’ which is reportedly a 97 billion dollar industry and nearly 28,258 internet users view pornography at any given second of the day (Source).

I am glad that we have a solution in our manufacturer's handbook (Bible). The Bible gives us two solutions for this terrible problem. One is prevention, and the other is a cure. Apostle Paul said to young Timothy to flee from his youthful lusts. We have to RUN from these temptations, but unfortunately, people run towards it and wait for it to bite them. When you are facing sexual tempation, FLEE! Don't minister...Don't say you are strong enough to handle it...Don't saying "In Jesus Name, I come against you"...No! Just R-U-N!

One evening, King David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of his house. And from the roof, he saw a woman bathing and the woman was very beautiful to behold. And David sent messengers and took her for himself. Instead of running away he ran towards her and the consequence we all know, were pretty terrible (2 Samuel 11 chapter). This wrong choice haunted him for the rest of his life. In contrast, when Potiphar’s wife caught Joseph by his garment and said: "Lie with me.". He left his garment in her hand and fled from there (Genesis 39:11-12). These events clearly illustrate what we ought to do when we face such temptation. Lingering, like David will leave us with regret eventually costing us our eternal life but Running away like Joseph will enable us to have a closer fellowship with God.

Further in Romans 8:13 states that "for if you live according to the flesh (disobedient nature), you will die; but if by the Holy Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live”. Therefore, my dear ones, we need the Holy Spirit God to overcome these addictions. Apostle Peter, said in Acts 3:19, "Repent and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit". Therefore, let us repent of our sins and surely our Father will give you, the Holy Spirit God, who will facilitate you to put to death the deeds of the body.

What's next?

We, in our own strength, can never overcome sin. Any intensity of determination, any strength in way of self-discipline, cannot help you overcome sin because sin is so deeply rooted in our nature. It's like trying to train a pig to be clean. What chance is there of success?

Run away from youthful lusts and don’t play with fire. It will consume you. Furthermore, ask the Holy Spirit God, to give you the power to put to death the deeds of the body. "Temptation should be addressed at suggestion stage (the minute a thought comes into your mind)…because if you address it at a later stage, it'll be of no use."
